Demo Day Begins in the Mind

Metamorphosis means change—real change. Not surface-level, “new haircut, new me” change. The kind of change that starts on the inside and works its way out. In Romans 12, Paul tells us we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. Renovated. Rebuilt. Made new. And that process usually starts the same way every time: with questions, doubts, emotions, wrestling, and honesty. In other words—demo day. Just like on Fixer Upper, before anything beautiful can be built, something has to be torn down. Walls come down. Dust fills the air. Old systems get ripped out. It’s loud. It’s uncomfortable. But it’s necessary.

When God Starts Tearing Down Our Comfort Zones

Every day, we are building a version of ourselves. We’re chasing success, stability, security, approval, and purpose. We’re trying to land the job, fix the relationship, overcome the addiction, forgive the hurt, silence the anxiety, and figure out who we really are. And often, we want God to just “decorate” what’s already there—maybe add a little peace here, a little joy there. But instead, He starts pulling things apart. He exposes cracks in the foundation. He reveals leaks in our hearts. He points out habits, lies, fears, and defenses we didn’t even know were there. And suddenly we’re thinking, “Wait—this is my house. My heart. My story. Why are You tearing this apart?” Because healing usually starts with demolition.

The Cross: Where Demolition Met Resurrection

The greatest example of this is Jesus on the cross. What looked like the end was actually the beginning. Beaten. Broken. Buried. Hope seemed gone. Faith looked foolish. Everything felt demolished. But three days later, resurrection happened. Death was defeated. Darkness lost. Life won. The cross was the ultimate demo day—and the resurrection was the ultimate renovation reveal. God proved once and for all that destruction is never His final word. What looks like loss is often preparation. What feels like death is often setting the stage for new life.

Living the Cycle of Surrender and Renewal

And here’s the beautiful part: this isn’t a one-time event. It’s a cycle. Construction. Deconstruction. Reconstruction. Over and over again. Old habits die. New faith rises. Old fears resurface. New courage grows. We surrender. We rebuild. We trust again. Every single day, Jesus invites us into this process. He gives us permission to lay things down, pick them back up differently, and walk forward renewed. When parts of your life feel like they’re falling apart, remember—resurrection is coming. Again. And again. And again. He’s not just building you once. He’s continually making all things new. Forever and ever. Amen.
